Meet Gulli — your local guide in Bologna

Gunnlaugur Þór Kristinsson (but everyone calls him Gulli) is an Icelander who fell in love with Bologna — first as a student in 2008, and then for good when he moved back in 2018.

From Iceland to Bologna

Gulli has years of guiding experience in Iceland, and he brings that same energy to Bologna — the kind of tour where you don’t just see places, you feel the city through stories, personalities, and the little details that make Bologna special.

The spark behind bologna.is was simple: Bologna deserves fun, personal food walks — the kind that taste like the city and leave you with a list of places you’ll actually want to return to.

What it’s like to tour with Gulli

  • Personal and story-driven: he loves getting to know guests and tailoring the experience.
  • Local connections: many bars and restaurants know him as “the bearded Viking from Iceland.”
  • Clear and friendly guiding: he teaches English (mainly kids), so explaining things naturally is his superpower.
  • Small groups: ideal groups of 2–8 people for a relaxed, social pace.

Tours are available in English, Icelandic, and Italian.

Ask Gulli about Porta Galliera — it’s one of his favorite corners of Bologna and a great starting point for stories.
